Cross-Functional Role to Develop Integrated Infrastructure and New Data-Driven Solutions
January 14, 2020 — AST, a leading provider of ownership data management, analytics and advisory services to public and private companies as well as mutual funds, today announced the appointment of Lou Cordone as Senior Vice President of Data Strategy. Cordone, who has spent six years with the company and was most recently SVP of its Ownership Intelligence business, will report in his new role to Sue Lawrence, Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer at AST.
In his new position, Cordone will focus on a pair of priorities: exposing and integrating existing datasets through new infrastructure across the company’s transfer agency, proxy solicitation, and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP) services; and exploring ways in which artificial intelligence, blockchain, analytics, and evolving machine learning technology can be added to create additional value for AST clients . The cross-functional role will address data strategy leveraging AST’s product development, technology, and operations teams.
“With the creation of this new leadership role, we continue to hone our focus on AST’s leadership in ownership data management,” says CEO Martin Flanigan. “Across our wide range of offerings—from traditional registration and proxy solicitation, to proactively addressing activist investors and special shareholder situations, and managing public offerings for startups—we believe we can provide the greatest value to our clients by providing deeper ownership insights more efficiently. Data is both the foundation of that work, and our most valuable asset. Having grown our Ownership Intelligence business very successfully over several years, Lou has the ideal background to lead our enterprise-wide data strategy initiatives.”
The appointment accompanies a bevy of tech-driven product and services innovations from AST. AST’s mainstay Issuer Central® platform is an industry-first, on-demand analysis and intelligence platform that provides both registered shareholder and institutional and insider (street) ownership data for C-suite teams in one consolidated interface. In addition, set for early 2020 launch are ProxyIQ™, a transformative blockchain-based mutual fund proxy campaign platform, and Astrella™, a private-company ownership data platform.
Cordone will manage further efforts to more closely align issuer data from AST’s two primary markets, the U.S. and Canada. “Data strategy will push both the speed and predictive components of what we do at AST,” said Cordone. “Across our business lines, we have a long history of transactional data, and with this data, we are looking to further enable clients to identify opportunities and challenges with their shareholders, advise on strategy to manage shareholder engagement, and ultimately provide them tools to effectively do so. One of the most exciting elements of this new role lies in its exploration and experimentation, and I am excited to take up our new efforts in these critical areas.”
